Our home staging team in Denver take lighting very seriously.
Most people don’t realize that when it comes to home staging, lighting is so important. This blog post will talk about how to present your home in the best "light"!
Many people, however, fail to get the right lighting for their home. How many times have you gone to a department store and felt overwhelmed by the light bulb options available and you don’t know which one to choose.
Choosing the right lighting can have a huge impact. It seems silly, but choosing a $4 light bulb can have a big return on your investment. That’s not only because of energy costs, but it can also have a major visual impact too. Even just a small chance in lighting can transform the way a buyer feels about a space.
So, let’s dive in and take a look at some key things to look for when searching out the perfect lighting for your space.
Types and Shapes of Light Bulbs
LED are hands down the best lightbulb to choose. They have a long life, often lasting ten or more years depending how much you use it. They also emit the best quality of light and are available in various types of colors and temperatures. LED lights also will save you and the new buyer money! They use the least amount of energy and saves the consumer about $50+ annually. Essentially, the light bulbs pay for themselves in a matter of months.
LED lighting has greatly advanced. They are now available is so many different shapes and sizes to choose from. Although they might look slightly different than the “old school” bulbs of the past, rest assured, they will still be the right fit if you know what size you’re looking for. Be sure to take pictures of your fixture of the old light bulb before heading to the department store, so you know exactly what you’re looking for.
Color Temperature
The temperature of an LED light bulb is used to measure the light color. The temperature number will tell you how yellow, white, blue, or red the light will appear. For example, 3000 k - 3500 k has a very warm white or bright white glow to it. These are ideal for home staging in nearly every single room. This will allow the room’s true characteristic to shine through. It will highlight colors that shine through and showcase best in your listing photos. You’ll want to stay away from lighting on the blue scale (4000 - 6000 k range). These cooler temperatures don’t work well for home staging and are unflattering, since they tend to product a “cold light”. They also don’t show well in listing photos.
Brightness
Now that we understand how to choose the right color of a bulb, now we need to find the right brightness (lumens). With LED lights, brightness is determined in the form of lumens and not wattage. When you’re choosing the right brightness for your home, you want to look for the brightest light possible, which is around 750.
